WalkWise® vs. Leading Tracking Devices

Family-Inspired Care

Kathleen, WalkWise by Drive inventor Peter Chamberlain’s grandmother, lived alone on the family farm. She had a walker and a medical alert button, so the family assumed she was safe. But when Kathleen suffered a catastrophic fall, the walker was found in another room—along with her alert button. She was only saved because a neighbor happened to see her through the window.

That terrifying moment changed everything. Peter realized that mobility aids only work if they are used, and families need to know if there are safety concerns or abrupt changes before a tragedy happens. Inspired by Kathleen’s recovery (she’s now 100!), Peter created WalkWise, a discreet way to give families peace of mind and help seniors stay independent, safely.

What data is captured by the device?

The WalkWise® by Drive® device records wheel rotations of the walker or rollator, allowing you to see the distance and duration of each motion event every minute of every day. This very detailed data gets turned into hour-by-hour charts, day-to-day graphs, or even month-to-month comparisons. The device also keeps track of how long it’s been inactive and if it is tipped over.

Will the device record data when I’m not at home?

Yes! The device will record data 24/7 when your walker or rollator is away from the Communication Node. When you return home, all the movement data will upload to the WalkWise® system. So don’t worry – you’ll get credit for all your walking! However, most notifications will send only when the devices is within range of the Communication Node.

Does the device record sound or location?

No, the WalkWise® by Drive® device does not record and audio, video, or location information. The only information captured is about wheel rotations (distance, time of day) and device orientation.

Am I required to have a subscription? What’s included?

The WalkWise® by Drive® system processes hundreds of data points per day for each user, and the system is constantly evaluating the data in order to send real-time notifications to families, friends, caregivers, and walker users. We make this data immediately available to anyone in the Care Circle, anywhere in the world. In addition, we do not charge fees for adding people to the Care Circle, meaning that an unlimited number of people can view data from a device and configure their own notifications.

Should you need any assistance, support from a real person is available at no additional cost.

Can I have more than one device on my account?

Yes! You can switch between devices by using the drop-down arrow at the top of the home screen. Please note that each device will require its own subscription, but that may be managed by a different account.

Can I add others, such as a family member or caregiver, to my account?

Yes! The device admin can add others to a device’s Care Circle in the settings page of the app. You can add as many people to the Care Circle as you wish at no additional cost. They will have their own login and can configure their own notification options.

Will anyone be notified if I fall?

WalkWise® by Drive is not an emergency response system, and it is not designed to detect falls or notify emergency personnel.

The system can send notifications via text message, mobile notification, phone call, or email to members of the Care Circle based on their pre-defined settings. This may include a notification if the walker does not move for a long period of time, or if the device becomes tipped over. However, these kinds of notifications are not a replacement for a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS device).

How do I unsubscribe from the app?

If you are logged into the account that originally subscribed to WalkWise® by Drive, navigate to the Account screen and click “Manage Subscription”. If you do not see this option, you are likely not logged into the device Admin account.

Use your email to log into the subscription portal, and you can cancel your subscription. No new device data will be added to the system, and notifications will not be available.
